Morning Session (times typically from 08.30am till 12.30pm)

Basic Health & Safety and Safely Working at Height

This qualification is designed for learners working in, or aspiring to work in, the construction industry. It will give learners the knowledge to undertake their jobs safely. This qualification covers common hazards and risks in a construction environment, safe manual handling practices and working safely around plant and machinery. It also covers the importance of effective teamwork and communication in ensuring safe working practices are followed in the construction industry.

At the end of the course you will know:

  • Legislation
  • Health, Safety, Welfare
  • The workplace and workplace equipment
  • Risk assessment
  • Manual handling
  • Hazardous substances
  • Ergonomics and workstation design
  • Transport and vehicles
  • Noise and vibration

Afternoon Session (times typically from 13.00pm till 17.00pm)

Abrasive Wheels Awareness

This half day course is intended to give all levels of staff the information and training they need to make sure that they are aware of current Health and Safety requirements to prevent injury to themselves as required by the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER). Abrasive wheels can cause serious injury and it is important that staff who do not regularly use them are still aware of the dangers inherent in their use.

At the end of the course you will know:

  • Demonstrate a high level of theoretical knowledge in terms of work equipment safety
  • Show an appropriate appreciation of the importance of equipment safety
  • Follow safe operating procedures to a high level of competence
  • Understand regulations relating to machine safety
  • Understand the principals of machine maintenance
