Course Details

The Cable Avoidance (Cat & Genny) Training aims to provide training in Cable Avoidance and Service Location (Cat & Genny). Training is designed for any person working on the roads, setting out before a build, surveying and any others who may be excavating an area where pipes or cables may be buried underground.

  • Understand and interpret plans that show the location of underground utilities.
  • Understand and identify utility and highway services that could be encountered during the excavation of highways.
  • Understand the hazards and risks associated with utilities and highway services when excavating.
  • Understand how to use the equipment that locates underground pipes and cables.
  • Follow safe working practices on site (e.g. PPE, safe use of tools and use of risk assessments) by identifying and following the relevant health and safety regulations, standards, or any other legislation.

Course Duration

Novice training – 1 Day with a maximum of 6 candidates

Assessment

Theory assessment is made up of open questions and multiple choice
Practical assessment

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry
SWQR Card (Street Works Qualifications Register) - 5 Year Expiry

We offer the training at our Centre in Wincanton, with the added flexibility of being able to deliver the course at your venue, provided you can meet the off-site training requirements.
