Course Details

Below 10 Tonnes & Above 10 Tonnes

To provide knowledge, understanding and training in the following areas:

  • Gaining a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Learning a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the machine to be used.
  • Being able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
  • Being able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions.
  • Identifying, maintaining, and using the correct PPE appropriate for Excavator use.
  • Conducting all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturers and legislative requirements.
  • Safely mounting and dismounting the chosen machine.
  • Starting and stopping the engine and safely moving the machine and stopping it safely
  • Configuring the machine for travel and manoeuvring it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
  • Carryout all the necessary safety checks within the works area.
  • Manoeuvring the machine to the work area and correctly configuring in readiness to carry out excavating tasks.
  • Carrying out excavating tasks
  • Loading material onto transporting vehicles or into containers.
  • Reinstating excavation area, completing grading and levelling ground task.
  • Fitting to and removing attachments from the excavator.
  • Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

Course Duration

Novice training – 5 Days (maximum of 1)
Refresher training – 1 Day (maximum of 3)
Assessment only (EWT) – 1 Day (maximum of 6/3*)

Assessment

Theory assessment is made up of open questions and multiple choice.
Practical assessment.

Accreditation

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry
Crestmoor Training (in-house operator card & certification)

Things to know

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course if you can meet the off-site training requirements.
For the Experienced Worker Test (EWT), candidates must profile their previous experience with the instructor, specifically focusing on their use of the equipment they are being tested on.

*If you are an experienced worker for Excavator and Forward Tipping Dumper, then you have the option to complete both categories in one-day under EWT route. The maximum number of candidates for this is 3. Please contact us for more information on this. *

How do I know if I am classed as experienced?
You should be able to clarify your experience level by reading our course objective; however, if you are still unsure, please get in touch with us to speak with one of our instructors.
Do you provide PPE for me to wear during my training?
All delegates must bring their own PPE with them on the day. We will send a complete list of requirements on your course joining instructions.
