Machine and Plant

Course Details

To provide knowledge, understanding and training in the following areas:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities as an operator.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the machine and how to operate it safely.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook.
  • Locate and identify the major components and controls of the machine and explain their functions.
  • Explain the loading/unloading procedures for machine transport.
  • Conduct all pre-operation checks.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks of the work area.
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine.
  • Configure the machine for travel, then move off and stop safely.
  • Manoeuvre the machine safely when laden and unladen, over varying terrain and rough ground, in open and confined areas and on inclines.
  • Position the machine correctly to receive loads from an excavator.
  • Transfer and discharge loads, ensuring the load’s integrity and security.

Carry out all end-of-shift and shut-down procedures

Course Duration

Novice training – 3 Days (maximum of 3)
Refresher training – 1 Day (maximum of 3)
Assessment only (EWT)* – 1 Day (maximum of 6 / 3*)

Assessment

The NPORS theory assessment consists of open questions and multiple choice.
NPORS Practical assessment.

Accreditation

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry
Crestmoor Training (in-house operator card & certification)

Things you need to know

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course if you can meet the off-site training requirements.

For the Experienced Workers Test (EWT), candidates must profile themselves with the instructor on their previous experiences using the piece of plant being tested.

 

*If you are an experienced worker for Excavator and Forward Tipping Dumper, then you have the option to complete both categories in one day under the EWT route. The maximum number of candidates for this is 3.*

How do I know if I am classed as experienced?
You should be able to clarify your level of experience by reading our course objectives. However, if you are still unsure, please get in touch with us to speak with one of our instructors.
Do you provide PPE for me to wear during my training?
Each delegate is responsible for bringing their own PPE on the day of the training. A comprehensive list of requirements will be included in your course joining instructions.
