Machine and Plant

Course Details

To provide knowledge, understanding and training in the following areas:

  • Gaining a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Learning a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the machine to be used.
  • Being able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
  • Identifying, maintaining, and using the correct PPE appropriate for Excavator use.
  • Conducting all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturers and legislative requirements.
  • Safely mounting and dismounting the chosen machine.
  • Starting and stopping the engine and safely moving the machine and stopping it safely.
  • Configuring the machine for travel and manoeuvring it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
  • Carryout all the necessary safety checks within the works area.
  • Manoeuvring the machine to the work area and correctly configuring in readiness to carry out excavating tasks.
  • Carrying out excavating tasks
  • Loading material onto transporting vehicles or into containers.
  • Reinstating excavation area, completing grading and levelling ground task.
  • Fitting to and removing attachments from the excavator.
  • Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

Course Duration

Novice training – 5 Day with a maximum of 1
Refresher training – 1 Day with a maximum of 3
Assessment only (EWT) – 1 Day with a maximum of 4*

Assessment

Theory assessment made up of open questions and multiple choice.
Practical assessment

Accreditation

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry
Crestmoor Training (in-house operator card & certification)

Things to know

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course, if you are able to meet the off-site training requirements.

For Experienced Workers Test (EWT) the candidate will be required to profile themselves with the instructor on their previous experiences using the piece of plant being tested on.

How do I know if I am classed as experienced?
You should be able to clarify your level of experience by reading our course objective however, if you are still unsure then please get in touch with us to speak with one of our instructors.
Do you provide PPE for me to wear during my training?
All delegates must bring their own PPE with them on the day. We will send a complete list of requirements out to on your course joining instructions.
