Course Details

By the end of this training the learner should have the following knowledge of the theory and perform manual handling tasks using safe techniques.

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in it, and their responsibilities as operatives.
  • State the definition of manual handling, the main causes of manual handling injuries and the reasons for manual handling training.
  • Describe the function and shape of the human spine.
  • Describe the function of the intervertebral discs.
  • Understand the effects of static loading and the risks involved in team lifting.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of formal and dynamic risk assessment.
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for manual handling operations.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Describe and demonstrate safe handling techniques and mechanical aids.

Course Duration

Novice Course – ½ Day (Maximum of 12 candidates).
Refresher training – ½ Day (Maximum of 12 candidates).

Assessment

Theory assessment made up of open questions and multiple choice.
Practical assessment.

Accreditation

Crestmoor Training (in-house certification).

Things to know

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course, if you are able to meet the off-site training requirements.

Who needs to complete this course?
Anyone whose job involves lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving loads should attend a manual handling course. This could be: Warehouse and factory staff, Construction workers, Healthcare workers (e.g. nurses, carers, physiotherapists), Cleaners and janitors, Retail staff, Delivery drivers, Hospitality workers (e.g. hotel staff, Kitchen porters), Agricultural and farm workers, Office workers.
Do I need PPE for this course?
You do not require PPE for this course, as it is classroom based.
