Course Details

At the end of this course, candidates can expect to:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine.
  • Be able to locate and identify the machine’s major components and explain their functions.
  • Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturers and legislative requirements.
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine.
  • Start and stop the engine and safely move the machine off and stop it safely.
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely laden and unladen in open and confined areas.
  • Conduct all the necessary safety checks in the work area.
  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure it to carry out lifting and load-handling tasks.
  • Lift and transfer loads accurately and safely at different locations.
  • Load and unload external transport safely.
  • Fit, adjust and remove attachments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • Carry out all end-of-shift and shut-down procedures.

Course Duration

Novice Course – 3 Days (Maximum of 3 candidates).
Refresher Course – 1 Day (Maximum of 3 candidates).
Assessment only (EWT) – 1 Day (Maximum of 4 candidates).

Assessment

Theory assessment is made up of open questions and multiple choice.
Practical assessment.

Accreditation

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry.
OR
Crestmoor Training (In-House certification and card).

Things to know

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course if you can meet the off-site training requirements.

For the Experienced Worker Test (EWT), candidates must profile their previous experience with the instructor, specifically focusing on their use of the equipment they are being tested on.

Do you provide PPE for me to wear during my training?
For your safety and in line with our training standards, all delegates are required to bring their own PPE on the day. A comprehensive list of these requirements will be included in your course joining instructions.
Who is the Accrediting Body?
NPORS. You can also choose the in-house route to gain a Crestmoor Training certificate and card.
