Machine and Plant

Course Details

To provide knowledge, understanding and training in the following areas:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the machine and be familiar with other information sources and relevant legislation.
  • Be able to locate and identify the machine’s major components and explain their functions.
  • Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks following manufacturers and legislative requirements.
  • Check all emergency lowering functions.
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine.
  • Configure the machine for travel.
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre safely on level ground and inclines in open and confined areas.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area, including overhead and underground hazards.
  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure it to carry out accessing tasks.
  • Carry out accessing tasks at various points up to full operating height.
  • Travel with platform raised (where applicable)
  • Use the platform extension section.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • Carry out all end-of-shift and shut-down procedures.

Course Duration

Novice training – 1 Day (maximum of 4)
Refresher training – 1 Day (maximum of 4)
Assessment only (EWT)* – 1 Day (maximum of 6 / 3*)

Assessment

Theory assessment is made up of open questions and multiple choice.
Practical assessment.

Accreditation

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry
Crestmoor Training (in-house operator card & certification)

Things to know

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course if you can meet the off-site training requirements.

For the Experienced Workers Test (EWT), candidates must profile themselves with the instructor on their previous experiences using the piece of plant being tested.

 

*If you are an experienced worker for Excavator and Forward Tipping Dumper, then you have the option to complete both categories in one day under the EWT route. The maximum number of candidates for this is 3.*

How do I know if I am classed as experienced?
You should be able to clarify your level of experience by reading our course objectives. However, if you are still unsure, please get in touch with us to speak with one of our instructors.
Do you provide PPE for me to wear during my training?
Each delegate is responsible for bringing their own PPE on the day of the training. A comprehensive list of requirements will be included in your course joining instructions.
