Course Details

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), it is essential that anyone who uses a chainsaw at work should have received adequate training and be competent in using a chainsaw for the type of work that they are required to do. This course is designed to provide you with evidence of the required experience and knowledge required.

 

  • Employer & Employee legal responsibilities.
  • Health & Safety Act 1974 and other relevant legislation.
  • Pre-Operational checks.
  • Chainsaw maintenance (workshop safety).
  • Chain sharpening.
  • Lubrication and refuelling..
  • Starting and pre-cutting checks
  • Crosscutting and stacking timber.
  • De-limbing.
  • Site safety including weather conditions and allowing for wind factor when cutting.

OR

  • Have a basic understanding of the dangers and their responsibilities as an operator.
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components and key controls of the machine and explain their functions.
  • Explain the techniques to service and maintain the chainsaw and explain how to sharpen and maintain the chain using the appropriate equipment.
  • Select a suitable type of machine relative to the work being undertaken.
  • Identify and maintain the correct chainsaw PPE appropriate to chainsaw cross cutting and maintenance.
  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Explain and identify tension and compaction when cutting.
  • Storage and transport and be able to carry out end of shift and shut down procedures.

Course Duration

Novice training – 2 Days with a maximum of 4 candidates.
Refresher training – 1 Day with a maximum of 4 candidates.

Assessment

NPORS Theory assessment made up of open questions and multiple choice.
NPORS Practical assessment.

Accreditation

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry
Crestmoor Training (In-House certification and card)

Things to know

You must provide evidence of your previous training to be eligible to attend the 1 Day Refresher Training i.e. NPORS Operators Card which is due to expire.

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course, if you are able to meet the off-site training requirements.

FAQ

Do you provide PPE for me to wear during my training?
All delegates must bring their own PPE with them on the day. We will send a complete list of requirements out to on your course joining instructions.
Who is the Accrediting Body?
NPORS. You will be awarded an NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card with a 5 Year Expiry.
