Course Details

To provide knowledge, understanding and training in the following areas:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator.
  • Conform to manufacturers’ requirements as per technical data and conform to relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Locate and identify the machine’s major components and explain their functions.
  • Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions.
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine.
  • Start and stop the engine and safely move the machine and stop it safely.
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the works area.
  • Be able to locate and identify safe working loads and lifting capacity charts and explain different lifting configurations and working ranges.
  • Identify and explain different lifting procedures and what task could fall into each category.
  • Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads.
  • Identify any overhead/proximity hazards.
  • Agree on the signal codes/hand signals, direction of movement, safe working and safe landing, and placement zone with the slinger/signaller.
  • Ensure the excavator is in a safe condition for attachments to be fitted.
  • Checking load integrity and security by carrying out trial lifts.
  • Be able to lift and move a load to a designated position in a safe and controlled manner, ensuring minimum uncontrolled movement.
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all out-of-service and securing procedures.

Course Duration

Novice training – 2 Days (maximum of 4 candidates)
Refresher training – 1 Day (maximum of 4 candidates)
Assessment only (EWT) – 1 Day (maximum of 6 candidates)

Assessment

NPORS theory assessment is made up of open questions and multiple choice.
NPORS Practical assessment.

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card - 5 Year Expiry
Crestmoor Training (in-house operator card & certification)

Things to know

BOLT ON CATERGORY*

*You must hold the excavator category on your NPORS Operators card to add as a bolt-on; you will also require a qualified slinger/signaller to work with you to sling the loads.

We deliver this training at our Centre in Wincanton, but we can also come to your venue to deliver the course if you can meet the off-site training requirements.

We can provide a qualified Slinger/Signaller, but this will be at an additional cost. Please get in touch with us for further information.

For the Experienced Workers Test (EWT) the candidate will be required to profile themselves with the instructor on their previous experiences using the piece of plant being tested on.

FAQ

How do I know if I am classed as experienced?
You should be able to clarify your level of experience by reading our course objective however, if you are still unsure then please get in touch with us to speak with one of our instructors.
Do you provide PPE for me to wear during my training?
All delegates must bring their own PPE with them on the day. We will send a complete list of requirements out to on your course joining instructions.
